Whenever I think of or see a public urinal, I am reminded of Club Mahindra, Thekkady. My saga continues. First it was Cherai, now it is Thekkady. I booked a studio kitchen room for one night and a 1BR for another. We were informed that the studio kitchen is not ready (at 1350) and would take another 20 minutes. Then the manager allotted us a room, after speaking to his minions in Malayalam, and we were taken to a room which had cobwebs on the walls, and to coverup the smell of dirty laundry, eucalyptus leaves were strategically kept on the bed. My wife then entered the toilet only to be taken back to Club Mahindra Cherai and she exclaimed, public urinal! The studio kitchen came with a bench and a small dining table. The upholstery of the bench was covered with dirt which entered the crevasses and made the colour go from light brown to black-like the darkness in our lives when we entered the room. Enters the house keeping manager. He apologises for the upkeep of the room and offers to shift us to a Studio room. That room was clean enough for us to spend a night. We did that and hoped that our next night in the 1 bedroom would be much nicer. This time around, I braved and entered the 1BR’s toilet and I was not surprised to smell another public urinal. We called housekeeping and they cleaned it with a solution which again had the aroma of eucalyptus oil. I think Club Mahindra gets a free supply. We called the housekeeping twice and the final time, they changed the seat of the WC because they realised that it had old urine stains which we refused to touch with our backsides. I braved to use the glass kept in the kitchen only to see undissolved sugar. I have a photo to prove it, just in case you don’t believe me. I rang the reception and demanded an audience with the resort’s manager but I was allowed to meet only the house keeping manager. I showed him the glass. He agreed to replace the glass so that the evidence is destroyed. But I had other ideas. The next morning, the resort’s manager came and met us. We requested him to spend a night in club Mahindra so that he could experience what we experienced. Our check out was smooth, however my breakfast wasn’t. One thing I noticed during the check out was that every customer had minimum one complaint. It’s the captain that takes the credit for the victory and the fall for the loss. Either the manager should resign or he should be shown the door, but only after he spends one night in the rooms that we were allotted.
